PEOPLE TRUST ADS MORE THAN THEY TRUST THE NEWS
A new survey finds that 61% of people trust the advertising they see, an 11% jump from March 2014, according to eMarketer. In addition, 72% of respondents also said the ads are "honest," a 16% increase over the past two years. Other studies have indicated that ad trustworthiness depends on the medium. Some studies show people are less likely to trust digital ads vs. traditional print or television ads.

TIME INC'S MNI TARGETED MEDIA DIVISION HOLDS ON TO THE TOP SPOT
As Time Inc moves closer to announcing a sale or no sale, the media giant's targeted media division MNI continues to slay the competition. According to a recent ComScore report, MNI is the number one ad network, with its two closest competitors far in the distance.

INSTAGRAM IS DRIVING THE NEW HEALTHY LIVING CRAZE
The rise of Instagram has prompted some of the biggest shifts in the health and fitness industry in recent years, fueling a legion of new brands from meal plans like Whole30 and delivery services like Sakara Life to fitness programs like Bikini Body Guide and boutique fitness brands like ModelFIT.

THE RISE OF THE VERTICALS
Media companies are still chasing scale, But instead of one-size-fits-all sites, they’re increasingly launching single-subject verticals focused on advertiser-friendly topics like health, technology and food. In the past few months, NBC News has launched three verticals: Mach (science), Better (health) and Think (futurism). The New York Times in the past year introduced verticals including Cooking, Well and Smarter Living, before acquiring The Wirecutter, a technology and gadgets reviews site.

FORBES MAGAZINE LAUNCHES FINLAND EDITION
“The goal of Forbes Finland is to bring fresh new ideas for businesses in Finland and help them overcome the economic difficulties of the past decade,” said Fredrik Nars, senior vice president of SK Media Finland, in a statement.  “For the launch campaign, we’ve selected the slogan - Changing Business, Changes Finland.  We hope the stories in Forbes Finland, some of which will be inspired by the editorial content from Forbes magazine’s 38 editions around the world, will help Finnish entrepreneurs realize their true potential.”

FACEBOOK AND AMAZON BUDDY UP TO GO AFTER GOOGLE
Facebook is already a dominant force in digital display advertising. eMarketer expects the social network giant's share of the U.S. market to climb to 39.1% this year, as it sells more than three times as much display advertising as its next closest competitor, Google. The Alphabet company is expected to generate $5.2 billion in U.S. display advertising this year.

DISNEY NOT FEELING THE ON DEMAND EARLY MOVIE RELEASE IDEA
While a number of Hollywood studios are discussing the possibility of a premium video on demand service that offers movies sooner after their theatrical releases, Disney reportedly wants no part of it. Disney seems perfectly content with its current record-setting box office run and is not engaged in any of the ongoing talks.

VIACOM NAMES NEW PARAMOUNT CEO
Viacom officially named Jim Gianopulos the new chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures on Monday, tasking him with bringing the struggling studio back to its glory days. Viacom CEO Bob Bakish announced the hire after a month-long hunt to replace the studio’s former chairman, Brad Grey.

SNAP INC SURGES AGAIN
Shares of Snap Inc jumped nearly 5 percent on Monday after several of the Snapchat owner's IPO underwriters handed it badly needed "buy" ratings. Snap's initial public offering on March 1 was the largest by a technology firm in three years but trading has been volatile, with many investors critical of decelerating user growth. Snap has warned it may never become profitable.

MEDIACORP KILLS PRINT EDITION OF 'STYLE' AND 'STYLE:ME'
Mediacorp is boosting its digital magazine business with fresher, immersive content and more videos on its digital platforms across web, mobile and social. For women audiences in particular, its flagship fashion magazine Elle Singapore will devote greater coverage to cultivating personal style and achieving the success that comes with personal power.

AT&T-TIME WARNER TIE UP IS ALL GOOD WITH TRUMP NOMINEE
President Trump has nominated a former corporate lawyer — who previously said that AT&T’s bid for Time Warner doesn’t pose a “major antitrust problem” — as the U.S. Justice Department’s next competition chief. Makan Delrahim is a longtime antitrust expert.

OH OH! TRONC'S SECOND LARGEST SHAREHOLDER IS DEMANDING MORE SHARES
Tronc Inc.’s second-largest shareholder has sent a letter to the board raising questions about corporate governance and demanding they raise a limit on his ownership stake amid an increasingly hostile fight with the company’s biggest investor. A lawyer for biotech entrepreneur Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong said in a letter obtained by The Wall Street Journal that he is “troubled by the company’s corporate governance, or lack thereof,”...
