American Media Inc (AMI) continues to make deep cuts to realize revenue as the company is said to have laid off some 50 people on Monday including one exec who was on vacation when she got the bad news that she was out of a job. The tabloid/men's lifestyle publisher has been cutting where it can in an effort to pay down debt and clean up the books. There is still speculation that AMI CEO David Pecker is gearing up to shop the company to the highest bidder but is working feverishly to get the company into better financial shape on paper. This following the exit of executive editor Barry Levine who is out after 17 years. The 50 cuts on Monday is believed to have been across National Enquirer, OK magazine and Globe. Other changes at AMI that quietly took place in the past months includes the departure of longtime consumer marketing chief David Leckey who is retiring. He was replaced by consumer marketing operations director Ephraim Brennan. Consumer marketing director June Steinfeld also retired and was replaced by consumer marketing manager Linda Dicampli. Those changes also lead to one long time staffer being cut from the consumer marketing group last month.
