scooped up Us Weekly expanding its audience by 50 million. Here's whats
happening elsewhere:
THE INEVITABLE LANDING
SNAP INC'S SHARES HAVE LANDED, TARGET PRICE SET AT $18
Shares in Snap Inc hit a fresh low on Wednesday,
falling as much as 2.6% before clawing back some losses in choppy
trading as analysts questioned the company's prospects. In its tenth day
of trading after its $3.4 billion public listing, the owner of the
Snapchat messaging app was last down 0.9% at $20.40 after hitting a low
of $20.05 in the first few minutes of trade. Is the stock suffering from

"FACEBOOK STORIES" LAUNCHING OVERSEAS
Facebook Stories, a feature that puts photos that disappear after 24
hours at the top of the Facebook mobile app, is rolling out to users
in Chile, Greece and Vietnam, Facebook confirmed. However, it is not
available to users in all markets. The feature was first tested among
users in Ireland in January and its extension this week comes hot on the
heels of a major Facebook offensive to bake Snapchat’s core features
into its main mobile services.
BUZZFEED IS DEVELOPING 31 ORIGINAL SHOWS
The slate spans a wide variety of distribution partners. For instance,
some shows like “BuzzFeed Unsolved” are distributed on Facebook, YouTube
and on BuzzFeed’s site and apps (this includes Tasty, BuzzFeed’s hit
food brand, which is making shows like“Tasty Date Night” and “Tasty
Story.”) Other shows are paid for by streaming partners, including
Quinta Brunson’s “Broke” and The Try Guys’ “Squad Wars” for YouTube Red,
Kelsey Darragh’s “Am I Doing This Right?”
TIME WARNER, VIACOM AND FOX BUDDY UP ON DATA DRIVEN TV AD BUYING
Turner, Viacom and Fox Networks Group are joining forces to make it
easier for advertisers to use data to target ads across multiple TV
networks. The three media giants have announced the launch of OpenAP, a
web-based platform where advertisers can mix and match data sets to
create ad targeting criteria that can be used for multiple TV buys.
GENIUS SHIFTS FROM TECH TO MEDIA
Genius, which raised $56.9 million on the promise that it would one day
annotate the entire internet, has been losing its minds. In January, the
company quietly laid off a quarter of its staff, with the bulk of the
cuts coming from the engineering department. In a post on the Genius
blog at the time, co-founder Tom Lehman told employees that Genius
planned to shift its emphasis away from the annotation platform that
once attracted top-tier investors in favor of becoming a more
video-focused media company.
WEARABLE TECH
GOOGLE AND LEVI'S BUDDY UP ON NEW $340 SMART JACKET
Wearable technology is set for its most literal incarnation with a new
partnership between Google and clothing line Levi’s. From this fall,
technology lovers will quite literally be able to wear their hearts on
their sleeves, donning a new smart jacket which allows them to control
their mobile device at the swipe of a cuff.
ATLANTIC MEDIA'S BUSINESS NEWS SITE "QUARTZ" NOW IN ITS FOURTH YEAR OF OPERATION IS MAKING MONEY
Quartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney and co-president and publisher Jay
Lauf have announced that the business news website is profitable. “Amid
industry hand-wringing about advertising and business models, we are
among the rare digital media startups to have achieved profitability.”
AT&T TIME WARNER DEAL APPROVED BY EUROPEAN COMMISSION
The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, has
approved AT&T’s proposed $85.4 billion acquisition of Time Warner.
The telecom giant announced the approval, which analysts had expected
soon, on Wednesday.
“We appreciate the skilled work of the European Commission’s team for
their timely effort to analyze and clear the AT&T-Time Warner
merger,” said Bob Quinn, senior executive vp AT&T external and
legislative affairs.
TWITTER WILL ALLOW MEDIA COMPANIES TO POST LIVE STREAMING VIDEOS
The company will open up its live-streaming API, allowing media firms to
plug directly into Twitter’s software, the people said. Right now,
media firms that want to stream live on Twitter have to arrange deals
with the company or else use its Periscope app.
FOLLOWING CLOSURE OF MEDIA DIVISION, GOPRO WILL ELIMINATE 270 MORE JOBS
GoPro said it will cut 270 jobs in an effort to reduce operating
expenses, its second round of layoffs in less than four months. In
November, the company announced plans to lay off 200 workers and close
its entertainment division, which aimed to build a media company with
original content inside GoPro.
RODALE'S MEN'S HEALTH IS LOOKING FOR THE "ULTIMATE GUY"
Let’s get this straight right up front: They’re not looking for a man,
and they’re definitely not looking for a hunk, stud or hottie, although
he may share some of their characteristics. Men’s Health is looking for a
guy, specifically, “The Ultimate Men’s Health Guy,” in a national
search for a cover model - sorry, guy - sponsored by underwear brand
Jockey.
