Recently, The Root launched The Chatterati, a section of the website focusing on the black community’s use of Twitter. “It’s a snapshot of what’s going on in real time on black Twitter,” says Byrd, noting that African-Americans over-index in their use of the site; it’s been known for years that a higher percentage of black Internet users are on Twitter than white Internet users.
