"This is yet another historic moment for Comcast," said Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts in a statement. "We continue to be proud to call Philadelphia our home, and are thrilled to build a world-class media, technology and innovation center right in the heart of the city, to bring NBC 10 and Telemundo 62 downtown, and to create thousands of jobs and further drive economic activity in the region."
TimeWarner and Comcast, two of the world's biggest media companies are in different points in their existence. OK so Comcast really just got its big media status after it swallowed NBC Universal, and the company seems to be laced with cash to blow while TimeWarner is cutting back. Comcast is in big acquisition/expansion and building mode with their money guns possibly aimed at taking over a chunk of TimeWarner Cable. At the same time, TimeWarner is shedding weight and streamlining its operations with a renewed focus on TV, Cable and Films. Comcast which currently operates out of the Comcast center in Philadelphia, Is looking to move out of that space and into a new proposed $1.2 billion shiny headquarters. TimeWarner built a shiny new billion dollar Headquarters back in 2003 but the company is now looking to unload that building and take the money and run to a new leased space. Its as if Comcast CEO Brian Roberts is taking a page out of TimeWarner's early book.
