The new Time.com front page sucks big time

-BETH Time.com quietly launched a new front page some weeks ago and its a good thing they chose a to sneak it out. Its like they tossed it out to see what the reaction would be. Well here ya go if you haven't heard it already, it sucks big time. Not only does the Time logo get lost on the page, but the page on a whole just looks like one big vomit puddle. Note to Time, change it and change it quick.

Time.com step's on CNNmoney.com's toes

-MARTY Maybe we're missing the point but, for some reason Time.com has a new global business section. But isn't this kinda taking away from Time.com's sister site CNNmoney.com. Isn't this just creating yet another destination within the Time Inc digital stable when there should only be one per topic. CNNmoney.com is already the home of the Fortune Money Group, one big destination for all things business within the Time Inc digital stable. It would be crazy to see CNNmoney.com launching a section focused on world issues wouldn't it? This to us, just saysTime Inc is all over the place with their so called digital strategy. Bottom line the new Global business section should have been something within CNNmoney.com. Its all about the one stop guys.

The year of the makeover continues. Next up, Newsweek

Following in the footsteps of Time and Businessweek, Newsweek will pull the curtains back on its online and print editions on Monday officially dubbing 2007 the year of magazine makeovers. But the folks at Newsweek aren't publicity sluts like Time or Businessweek opting to stay under the radar with their revamp, as explained by it's stealthy editor Jon Meacham. "It was stealth redesign," Meacham said yesterday as he was getting ready to ship the first of the new-look pages to the printer. "I just want people to judge it when they see it," said Meacham. Businessweek's soon to be revealed nip and tuck aims to enhance the un-enhanced

So the guys and gals over at Businessweek will roll out a new look with the October 12th issue. When it was first announced it was said that the blue line under the logo will be removed and inside, sections will have bigger, bolder font so we can navigate through the pages better. But that’s what the table of content is for though right? Well from the sound of things it seems like they did something similar to what Time did on the inside? Bigger page numbers,bold department names and a couple a new sections. Yawnish! We have taken 18 months to create this design, which was based on market research and reader input,” BusinessWeek group president Keith Fox tells Folio: Alert. Fox joined BusinessWeek in April after serving as president of McGraw-Hill Professional. “The goal of the redesign is to enhance the reader’s experience and to update the magazine to have a 21st century appeal. Last week the rest of the world got a different issue of Time magazine than us. Now this week everyone gets the same issue except for the South Pacific? Do they not care about Global Warming too? Time.com

The rest of the world gets "Talibanistan" we get bibles and public schools

-SHOMARI HINES This week it seems as though the rest of the world got what we think is a more exciting issue of Time than us poor chaps here in the U.S of A. The rest of the world gets a cover story with a movie worthy title "Talibanistan" and we get stuck with why we should teach the bible in our public schools. However make no mistake about it, we can think of a dozen or more reasons why our public schools need Jesus, but we won't get into that at all. Time Editions [Time.com]

-SHOMARI HINES When the newly revamped Time Magazine hit newsstands last Friday, we had our take on the new look. But as usual we wanted to hear from those of you who read it. We asked which Time do you prefer, and 33% of you are really digging the new look. 16% of you however liked the mag the way it was. But the biggest none shocker was that 50% of you don't even read Time, even though the new design is aimed at getting you to start reading it. Well its still early, maybe some how some way a copy will land in your lap. Our final, say on the whole thing, we;re kinda digging the new Time. Yeah we are.

We don't know how the inside of the mag looks because we haven't gotten ours in the mail as yet. However We want to know what you think. Time nip & tuck more like a squeeze and push

-Shomari Hines OK so the gang at Time Inc are trying to freshen up the iconic news mag, but it really isn't that much of a refreshed look at all. The logo should have remained full size, and the story preview boxes above the logo comes over more like a special feature issue than part of the new face of the magazine. Our verdict, unless Time subscribers were told about the little changes being made, they probably won't notice.

A nip and tuck for print edition of Time

-Shomari Hines Time Magazine is about to do something it hasn't done in years or ever for that matter. The company will roll out a slightly refreshed print edition this Friday with a nip, tuck and cut here and there. At 84 we think its long overdue, we just hope the changes take well because going under the knife at such an old age can be very risky. The New York Times gives us a run down on whats in, out and downsized. In: A cleaner, simpler design, heavy on labels at the top of each page and the names of its columnists in World War II size type — the better to brand with. Out: The last remnants of Time’s signature syntax, parodied by the humorist Wolcott Gibbs with his phrase, “Backward ran sentences until reeled the mind.” Richard Stengel, Time’s new managing editor, said the inverted syntax would vanish from the Milestones section, where it still crops up in obituaries, as in: “Died. Max Kalehoff is sick and tired of YOU

Like us, Mediapost columnist Max Kalehoff is sick and tired of the whole You! bandwagon because of Time magazine's decision to name "YOU", person of the year. Ad Age is the latest publication to hop on the "You" bandwagon naming "You" ad agency of the year. We think they just took the easy way out, and Max Kalehoff aint trying to hear it. YOU, YOU AND YOU, AGAIN! It seems that's all we hear now, thanks in part to Time's naming of "you" as person of the year. And praise to you recently extended beyond mainstream and into the marketing-agency world, exemplified by Ad Age's naming of you as agency of the year. That's where I draw the line. Let's get things straight. You, the individual, are more important to marketers now because you now have a digital megaphone in which to expose, codify and amplify what you've always done: express yourself, including your experiences with brands. Your expressions now are positioning, promoting and influencing brands in ways that often are more creative, compelling, credible and powerful than those of the professional agencies that brands still hire today. January 17th is Execution Day at Time Inc, and the doomed prepare to be executed

With the rumored blood bath set to take place on our before January 17th at Time Inc. we can only imagine the moods of the convicted. We can imagine it so well that we decided to put in writing what we think is happening at the Time Inc offices, right now as you read this. I.T. already got its list of the doomed and is closely monitoring online and overall computer behavior to make sure files aren't being deleted, transferred, or sabotaged. I.T. is no doubt monitoring the outflow of emails as well, just in case tips are being sent to media blogs about happenings within the company, or someone got the balls to write what they really feel about Ann Moore. Building security is on "Orange" -AKA- high alert in case the doomed feel the need to act up knowing that well.....................they are part of the doomed. Ann Moore and her direct underlings are staying low key to avoid passing one of the doomed in the hallway or being stuck on an elevator on the ride down, because a lot can happen to someone in the few seconds the ride takes. HR reps are practicing breathing techniques to help control their out of control nervousness, then again they should be pretty used to this by now. However they decided to indirectly name Youtube, person/thing of the year by naming "YOU", us, person(s) of the year. Did we lose you?

It's that time again where the folks at Time magazine start wondering who in the world should they name their person our persons of the year. This time around they really shouldn't have trouble with choices, but its said choices that could lead to a brain fart. The collective "You" was the leading nomination at Time's 2006 Person of the Year luncheon, moderated by managing editor Richard Stengel, held Tuesday in Midtown, where panelists NBC anchorman Brian Williams; Arianna Huffington; Cory Booker, mayor of Newark; actor-director Emilio Estevez and Tom DeLay (yes, the under-a-cloud former House majority leader) had, naturally, widely differing opinions as to what extent "You" should be recognized. $4.95 when we can read it on our next doctors visit Looks like things are getting a little desperate over at Time Inc's Time magazine as the company announced that it will cut the rate base from 3.25 million from 4 million and raise the cover price to $4.95 further keeping away people who don't really read it anyway. Time also said it will start relying on an "audience-selling model," a method it said television networks use to sell advertising, rather than a rate base. What? Zucker and company orders full round of show they were looking to cancel We're convinced that, someone or something has to suck for NBC Universal and/or NBC to either promote that person who sucks or order more episodes of that show that sucks. With that said the company has ordered a full season of the very sucky "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" after almost cancelling it.
