Finding Mika: Where the hell is MTV's President of Global Digital Media Mika Salmi?

-YOSH Talk about staying under the radar. MTV's Prexy of digital media Mika Salmi seems to be a pro at doing so. He sold off his Atom Entertainment to MTV and took over their digital business then fell off the face of the earth. Even recent press releases about digital related deals by MTV don't mention his name. Is this Mika's style of management? Is he one of those who believe that a low profile builds a big profile? Wat has he been up to? Does anyone know? Give us a holla.

Guessing the Billionaire

Gawker readers respond to their question about who is Michael Wolff's Mystery Billionaire. However we don't quite agree with Gawker's toss up 100%. The fact that the article mentioned that the individual is remarkably fit, we are ruling out Billionaires who it wouldn't be remarkable that they are fit like Mark Cuban due to his age, the guy is pretty young and should be in shape. The word "remarkable" indicates to us that for the individual's age (older) he is surprisingly in good shape. So our choice for a toss up would include Barry Diller and one name we don’t think was mentioned, Jack Welch. Branson's the obvious go-to when anyone mentions "fit" and "larger than life" due to his Trumpian ego and manly exploits. But perhaps the key is actually the word "remarkably," as in its remarkable that someone Diller's age (he's almost 65) is still fit. Though he hasn't been a newspaper guy, Diller's long history in broadcasting might make it unfair to say he knows "zip, nada" about news, even though his experience is entertainment broadcasting. Mark Cuban, however, could fit the bill nicely, especially in terms of his self-styled maverick image tolerating the kind of subordinate kibbitzing ("He's probably the leading expert in buying businesses he knows nothing about.") that Diller notoriously frowns on. Question of The Day: Where is the new Disney.com we were promised today?

Ok so we have been waiting all day for Bob Iger to pull the curtains back on the new Disney.com which his company is branding a PG Myspace for tweens. This was supposed to be during the CES in Las Vegas but we haven't seen a new Disney.com as yet. Was the new launch only for the eyes of those in attendance at the CES or is Disney's web team miss their deadline? Was the whole revamp thing reported wrong by major news outlets? Was Bob Iger to announce plans to revamp the site and not announce and reveal the new site?

Was the Treasury Secy job offered to Dick Parsons? If so why did he reportedly turn it down? We read a few articles a few weeks ago about the TimeWarner boss being offered a spot in the Bush admin but he reportedly turned it down saying he loves his current job. Hey the guy does make sense! Question of the day: How long until Peter Chernin pushes James Murdoch out?

Peter Chernin may have gotten rid of one, but he has one more to go. The days following the departure of Lachlan Murdoch from his daddy’s empire, speculation stirred that News Corp Prexy Peter Chernin secretly coordinated the collision between father and son. Pete must have gotten wind that Lachlan will be the one he calls boss some day and made a “Hell No” decision to get junior out. With Lachlan gone Chernin can now sit a little comfortable but what about James, Lachlan’s younger brother? Yeah he is busy running daddy’s Sky satellite business for now, but at some point we predict the youngster will be summoned to Newscorp headquarters on 6th ave at some point. What will Mr. Chernin do then? Is he the devil keeping Rupert’s kids out of the main circle?

Question Of The Day: Peter Chernin is the anti-Murdoch, So why is he Mr. Murdoch's number two?

He was dubbed the "Anti-Murdoch" by Businessweek back 2004, he is a registered democrat, why in the world is Peter Chernin President and Chief Operating Officer of NewsCorp? We rarely see or hear Peter Chernin unless its on a earnings call. He rarely does interviews and We can't remember seeing him on the cover of any major business magazine . But he is the man who finally pushed out Rupert Murdoch's son Lachlan (allegedly) and he has accomplished quite a bit too. He is a power player and he is the man who helps to make some of Rupert Murdoch's wishes come to life cause who really wants to make the old guy mad right? Here is a run down of some great Chernin moments and maybe one dumb one.........maybe: Chernin was a key negotiator when News Corp. won regulatory approval for its $6.6 billion deal to buy control of the DirecTV Inc. satellite service. But Chernin can take off the gloves when needed: He and Cox Communications Inc. CEO James O. Robbins traded nasty barbs over News Corp.'s planned double-digit price hike for its Fox Sports Networks channels. Chernin won a 10% increase and Cox's pledge to carry more Fox channels. Some think Chernin could run Walt Disney Co. if Chairman Michael D. Eisner leaves. But Chernin says he's happy right where he is, getting paid $17.3 million to serve as good cop to Murdoch. It seems as though mainstream media tries to skip around the fact that Myspace.com is nothing but community for of horny teenagers looking for their next piece of ass. In an article by Jill Serjeant of Reuters the website is referred to as a hang out for teens seeking friends and conversation. But in an article a few months back in a well know glossy, former child actor Jeremy Jackson said and we quote: "I've gotten so much ass since joining Myspace. QUESTION OF THE DAY:Why are other cable networks beating BET to the punch? Their punch

One has to wonder what the executives at Black Entertainment Television are doing all day. Because other networks seem to be doing the things BET should have done or should have been doing. First of all BET's website suck. A picture of BET Chairman & CEO Debra Lee sits under the headline "Ms. Chairman & CEO" which comes across very overzealous and unprofessional. During BET founder Bob Johnson's reign at the network he was criticized by many for fueling black stereotypes via the content he greenlighted. And in many ways BET still fuels the stereotypes. Anyway we will save that for another posting. What is really shocking is that BET is being beaten by sister networks like VH1 on ventures they should have launched. Like for example VH1's recently launched VH1 Soul. BET didn't launch BET Soul they launched a boring dull channel called BETJ which is a jazz channel and it makes you ask who they hell do they think is watching their network, Bill Cosby and his friends? Debra Lee says she will be putting her stamp on the network well so far we haven't seen anything worth mentioning. They insist on using hip hop music for news briefs on world issues and politics as if to say this is the only way they can communicate to the young black teenagers watching. Note to Debbie Lee and the crew: Step it up and drop the ghetto fabulous approach. We had to get this off our chest.

Question of the day:Will Nick Denton ever sell?

We have read numerous stories in the past and the present about Gawker Media being for sale, or it was sold or aliens took it over etc. We've heard it all. But what's really the story behind these stories. Are they even true? Could Nick Denton be the one planting these stories himself in an effort to juice up interest from big media companies? What would Gawker go for if Nick did decide to sell? Some have it at $20 Million? Would he give all his editors a cut? The most recent story is in this week's Businessweek. The article lists Gawker as a potential target for Newscorp's Fox Interactive unit which has been on an internet spending spree. Why doesn't Nick Denton just sell and dump the money into something else then sell that too? We personally think Mr. Denton has a hand in some of the stories that have surfaced in the past. Like we said its an effort to juice up interest and create buzz to get the attention of deep pocketed media firms. With a juiced up profile he can bargain his ass off for the price he may be interested in selling at. We bet he already has the exact amount he would sell his company for. more....

Question of The Day: Did Dick Parsons save Time Warner?

Dick Parsons is the last man standing from the AOL Time Warner era. He was charged with cleaning up the shit storm the worst merger in history caused. Some $200 Billion in shareholder value was wiped out instantly hitting Ted Turner the hardest almost sending the man to the poor house. Praises have been laid up on Dick for a job well down. Bringing down the companies debt, increasing cash flow and even putting Jeff Bewkes a well liked exec in the co-pilot’s seat. The move the symbolized the companies road to recovery, was when the AOL name was dropped from the corporate name. Dick even managed to fight off corporate shark Carl Icahn. But all this and the stock price is still hovering at or around where it has been for the last couple of years $ 17.33. Is Dick and Co. doing everything right, or is there something they can do better?

Question of the day: Where in the world is Geri Levine?

Former AOL Time Warner boss Geri Levine has gone underground. Last we heard he was putting his time into some spa retreat business out on the West Coast. The last time we saw him he shaved the mustache and lost a lot of weight which really didn’t look too healthy on him but the man wanted a whole new life after being front and center during the worst business disaster ever in U.S. history. Wait, Enron probably topped it. Geri left a life of being part of Manhattan’s media elite for sun and potential earth quakes in California. We vaguely remember reading an article on him in a magazine after he defected and he seemed happy. But we have to say he has fallen off the face of the earth in a way that no one has. We haven’t come across any recent articles even mentioning his name. And if an article does mention his name, it’s not him it’s some other Geri Levine guy. The award for best disappearing act goes to Gerald Levine. We wonder if Dick Parsons still talks to the guy from time to time. You know something like this would have worked for Mike Eisner.
