Talk about bad timing. As Conde Nast tries to figure out a new path forward, the company’s digital ranks under digital chief Fred Santarpia has been depleted over the past few months according to Digiday. The digital team has lost top level execs including its senior vice president and GM of digital strategy Matt Starker. Mr. Starker exited to go run an unnamed company after serving in multiple roles at Conde Nast. Conde’s former head of user experience and design also exited to take on the same role at hospitality giant Airbnb. And Finally the head of of emerging products Arlie Sisson also exited. Though these departures are not connected, they all come at a time when Conde Nast is under pressure to figure out a new business model, something its bigger former rival Time Inc tried feverishly to do but couldn’t go the distance.
This news though unrelated comes as Conde Nast is said to be considering or readying a financial review with the help of consultants. This news also comes though unrelated as rumors continue to circulate about a possible departure by long time Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. There seems to be something big on the horizon at the publisher. Many are speculating that It could be a shake up in upper management and/or a sale of some brands to help the company fill some financial holes.
