Tom Florio, a former publisher of The New Yorker and Vogue is leading the buyout of Paper Magazine the pop culture and fashion publication and its accompanying website. Mr. Florio who after more than two decades departed Conde Nast back in 2010 is the brother of former Conde Nast CEO Steven Florio who passed away in 2007. A deal is said to be near which would mark Mr. Florio’s re-entrance into the magazine media arena. When he left Conde Nast 7 years ago, he went on to run Advanstar’s Fashion Group which ran men’s apparel trade shows. But he exited that company after just two years. After he left Advanstar’s Fashion Group Mr. Florio said that he was focused on investment projects that he had personal interests in.
Paper Communications was started in 1984 by Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits, and magazine designer Lucy Sisman, among others. Hastreiter and Hershkovits remain co-editor and co-publisher.
