CBS CEO Les Moonves who is in attendance at this year’s Allen & Co Sun Valley Conference shared his admiration for Time Warner’s CNN and said that he would love to get his hands on it if it were to become available. Mr. Moonves went on to say that CNN is a very worthy news organization and that it could enhance CBS. This comes as CBS News entered a new editorial and newsgathering partnership with BBC a deal which calls for the sharing of video, editorial content and other resources across the globe. CBS is serious about news but it looks like Mr. Moonves wants a bigger piece of the news media pie.
Moonves shot down the rumor that CBS was interested in buying Lionsgate, but said if CNN were to come up for sale, he’d definitely look at it: “CNN is a very worthy news organization… it’s something that could enhance CBS. But I don’t think that’s on the table right now. If it came up later on, it would be something we would look at.”
