The Magnolia Journal, a lifestyle/shelter magazine launched by Meredith Corp and “Fixer Upper” stars Chip and Joanna Gaines less than a year ago, is fixing to be the hottest magazine launch in years. The publication is about to release its third issue on Friday with a total circulation of 1 million copies putting it on track to overtake long time shelter publications like House Beautiful and This Old House. The magazine now has 700k paid subscribers. Since its launch, the magazine has developed a cult like following on social media. Subscribers upon receiving their copies like to share staged photos of the magazine. The photos look like something out of the magazine itself. Meredith clearly has confidence in the title and is putting their full weight behind it. The couple behind the magazine however is facing some perhaps unrelated legal issues.
The one blip in the whole Magnolia Journal phenomena is that the original real estate partners of Chip Gaines are suing him, essentially claiming he bought them out of their Waco, Texas, realty business with the right to the name without disclosing that he was on the brink of a big TV deal with HGTV.
