Acquisition Follows Launch of LawNewz Live Video Network
New York, May 1, 2017 – LawNewz.com, the leading website for real-time legal analysis founded by ABC’s Chief Legal Analyst Dan Abrams, announced today the acquisition of the popular trial-watching site CourtChatter.com.
In late February, LawNewz.com launched LawNewz Network, an OTT video network that combines live trial coverage with in-studio analysis and commentary. LawNewz Network will also be developing additional programming and making distribution deals in the coming weeks, further expanding its audience. The network already welcomes over two million views per month with an average watch time of 19 minutes per viewer.
Founded in 2013 by Cathy Russon, CourtChatter.com provides live, in-depth coverage of court trials through video feeds, trial documents and a highly engaged chat room community with over 6,000 comments per day. CourtChatter.com also hosts over 5,000 hours of archived trial footage, which will now become part of the LawNewz archive.
Russon will join the LawNewz team as its Senior Trial Producer. CourtChatter.com will soon redirect to LawNewz.com, welcoming Court Chatter’s passionate audience to the larger platform.
“No one knows high profile trials better than Cathy, and she’s done a tremendous job building a site and community that loves watching courtroom dramas,” said LawNewz CEO Dan Abrams. “Court Chatter will give us the ability to provide a more complete social offering to LawNewz followers and the capability to better track, monitor and research ongoing trials.”
“LawNewz Network has quickly become the go to place to watch live trials,” said Court Chatter Founder Cathy Russon. “I am thrilled to join the team and share my passion for trials with a larger audience.”
In its first two months, LawNewz Network has already covered a number of high profile trials including the double murder trial of Aaron Hernandez, the attempted murder trial of MMA fighter “War Machine,” the “Stand Your Ground” hearing for Curtis Reeves and the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. The network has also welcomed a number of high-profile interviewees, including Jacqueline Bluth (“War Machine” prosecutor), Ronald Sullivan (Aaron Hernandez defense attorney) and Tamara Holder (FOX News plaintiff).
The network also employs notable legal analyst/hosts such as Beth Karas (Court TV/CNN reporter and former prosecutor), Heather Hansen (Fox News legal analyst) and Aaron Keller (attorney best known for his work during the Making a Murderer trials of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey).
