AMI Extends The Contract of Longtime CEO David Pecker by Five Years

American Media Inc has been under the rule of David Pecker for almost 20 years. and will continue to be for another five years. No one knows what will happen after the additional 5 years expire, but at that point, Mr. Pecker will have 22 years under his belt as CEO of the tabloid publisher and be about 71 yrs old.  The company didn't want to make a big deal about the contract extension because according to the NY Post it was buried under details about a new refinancing deal. Over the years many events took place at the company that some thought was the end of Mr. Pecker, but somehow he managed to stay in power. He recently had to sell off titles like Shape to help pay down debt. The company also laid off dozens of staffers over the last two years to shave cost. Rumors of a sale have hovered over the company for years but it never happened. The company has been enjoying some success on the digital side of things under the leadership of digital chief Brian Kroski and content chief Dylan Howard. It recently shook up its consumer marketing group following the retirement of longtime consumer marketing chief David Leckey.
