New Editor For Newsweek Europe Comes From Time Magazine
This morning, Newsweek announced the appointment of Matt McAllester as editor of Newsweek Europe. He will be in charge of the
magazine’s EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) edition and coverage across
Europe, the Middle East and Africa beginning on August 17. Here is the full press release:

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editor Matt McAllester to Lead
London-Based Team and EMEA Edition
New York, NY (July 27, 2015) - Newsweek, a premier weekly news magazine and website owned by IBT Media,
today announced that Matt McAllester has been named the new Editor of
Newsweek Europe. Based in London, McAllester will oversee the magazine’s
EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) edition and coverage across Europe,
the Middle East and Africa beginning on August 17. McAllester will
report directly to Newsweek’s Editor in Chief, Jim Impoco.

EMEA edition and coverage are a critical piece of the global growth of
Newsweek, so we are very excited to have Matt join our team in London to
lead the charge in that region,” said Johnathan Davis, Co-Founder and
Chief Content Officer for IBT Media. “He’s an award-winning journalist
with experience reporting on important stories and is going to be
integral in ushering Newsweek’s EMEA edition forward and continuing the
magazine’s momentum.”
As
Editor of Newsweek Europe, McAllester will drive editorial content from
Europe, the Middle East and Africa, overseeing the London-based staff
writers as well as freelancers out in the field. He will work closely
with Newsweek’s New York headquarters on breaking news as well as
features, and to oversee the EMEA edition of the magazine.

Africa. He has a deep and sophisticated grasp of the European
conversation and is a risk-taking and entrepreneurial journalist and
editor,” said Impoco.
McAllester
joins Newsweek from Time Magazine where he served as Europe Editor for
the past two years. Previously, he was a contributing editor at Details
magazine and before that spent 13 years as Correspondent, Reporter and
ultimately Bureau Chief for Newsday. He has covered conflicts in Kosovo,
Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey,
Nigeria and Lebanon and has reported in numerous other countries
including Burma, Egypt, Morocco, Iran, Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia,
Argentina, Spain, Poland, Germany, Italy, France and Montenegro. Over
the course of his career, McAllester has won numerous awards including
three Overseas Press Club citations and the Osborn Elliott Award for
Excellence in Asian Journalism. He was also a member of Newsday’s
Pulitzer Prize-winning staff in 1997.
