Guessing the Billionaire
Published: Wednesday, January 10, 2007
Gawker readers respond to their question about who is Michael Wolff's Mystery Billionaire. However we don't quite agree with Gawker's toss up 100%. The fact that the article mentioned that the individual is remarkably fit, we are ruling out Billionaires who it wouldn't be remarkable that they are fit like Mark Cuban due to his age, the guy is pretty young and should be in shape. The word "remarkable" indicates to us that for the individual's age (older) he is surprisingly in good shape. So our choice for a toss up would include Barry Diller and one name we don’t think was mentioned, Jack Welch.Branson's the obvious go-to when anyone mentions "fit" and "larger than life" due to his Trumpian ego and manly exploits. But perhaps the key is actually the word "remarkably," as in its remarkable that someone Diller's age (he's almost 65) is still fit. Though he hasn't been a newspaper guy, Diller's long history in broadcasting might make it unfair to say he knows "zip, nada" about news, even though his experience is entertainment broadcasting. Mark Cuban, however, could fit the bill nicely, especially in terms of his self-styled maverick image tolerating the kind of subordinate kibbitzing ("He's probably the leading expert in buying businesses he knows nothing about.") that Diller notoriously frowns on. We call this one a Diller-Cuban toss-up for now. Michael Wolff's Mystery Billionaire: Your Guesses [Gawker] Labels: Entrepreneurs, NEWSPAPERS, Question |
