Moonves spending big to remind us that Katie Couric works for him now

Published: Sunday, August 20, 2006

We will be re-introduced to katie Couric in about two weeks as the new face of CBS's evening news. But it's gearing up to be one of the priciest re-introductions ever. CBS wants us to go to sleep and wake up with Katie Couric's face in our heads. They are planning to plaster New York City buses with images of their new evening news anchor.

Her former boss Jeff Zucker isn't taking any chances. To avoid getting kicked to the curb by his former anchor's debut, Mr. Zucker has been gathering executives for regular meetings intended to guard against complacency, in both the evening and morning time slots. He is also pulling all stops in promoting his new "Today" team.

Beginning around Sept. 1, an image of Mr. Williams, four stories tall, will loom over the CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan from a banner at West 57th Street and 10th Avenue. (Alongside will be another featuring Matt Lauer and Ms. Couric’s replacement as his partner on the “Today” show, Meredith Vieira.)
